THE INCAS' SACRED VALLEY

It is named after the end of the vast Urubamba Valley, between the towns of Pisac and Ollantaytambo, near the city of Cusco. The valley is characterized by having very special conditions, such as an excellent climate, very fertile lands and the waters of the sacred river of the Incas, the Vilcanota (Quechua voice, sacred or marvelous thing), which upstream, in the town of Urubamba, It changes its name and it is called the Urubamba River.

It can appreciate and magnify the high technological development reached by the Incas in agriculture through andenerías systems (set of terraced terraces over the mountains to be used in planting) that are currently in full production, accompanied of sophisticated designs and hydraulic engineering works that were used for irrigation. The centers of adoration to the Pachamama (mother earth) also stand out. Today, each town in the Sacred Valley of the Incas has the fusion of Inca and Spanish architectural style. The richness of its people in its folklore and crafts, its way of life, its clothes, make it a place that will leave you unforgettable memories.

Pisac

Colorfull village located in the foothills of Intihuatana hill (place where the sun is moored), has the best andean system achieved by the Incas in all the Andes. Near the village is located the Picac Archaeological Park, Inca archaeological sites, finely assembled polished stone constructions, citadel, towers, military fortresses, astronomical observatories, etc. Highlights the Inca cemetery, the largest in all of America.

Every Sunday the Sunday party is celebrated, and every Thursday and Sunday the "Indian market" is held in the Main Square, the handicrafts fair, among which stand out beautiful textile crafts, sweaters, ponchos, bags, etc. and the ceramic crafts with reproductions of Inca archaeological pieces, the queros (ceremonial vessels), necklaces, etc. Písac is located 32 Km. (20 miles) from the city of Cusco, 2,972 m.s.n.m. (9,751 feet).

Urubamba

Another ancient Inca town, located in a fertile valley, once a great agricultural center of the Incas, and today a beautiful countryside, with great production of fruit trees. Urubamba is located on the slopes of the majestic snowy Chicón, to which you can easily reach and achieve its ascent. Urubamba is also called the "Archaeological Capital of Peru", because of the rich Inca archaeological sites that exist in the area; It is also called "The Pearl of the Vilcanota", for the incomparable landscapes that surround it, natural settings of indescribable beauty.
